A candidate uses his expertly-crafted oratory skills and strategically-deceptive propaganda to play on the fears and frustrations of citizens in order to garner votes. This same man promises to bring about the changes that people so desperately want by replacing "business as usual" politics with strength; he will get things done by whatever means necessary.

No, I'm not talking about Trump. I'm talking about Hitler. I think it is important to remember that Hitler did not begin his rise to power by calling for the extermination of Jews. That came later. His narcissism and ambition warped the way he viewed the world and how made decisions. Trump is no different. He has attained as much wealth as anyone could reasonably spend in one lifetime and it no longer holds the same value to him as it once did. He feeds on feelings of superiority so becoming leader of the free world must be agonizingly enticing. He wants it and is willing to say, or do, anything to get it. Still, is comparing him to Hitler fair? It seems absurd that Trump would justify the murder of innocent people...except that he
already has. If he makes claims about wanting to take out the families of terrorists and makes claims about changing libel laws so he can go after journalist/media (before he even gets elected) what other kind of tyrannical ideas will he put into practice as president?
"It would be a mistake to brush off Trump's fascist tendencies simply because they pale in comparison to history's villains. Barack Obama is not Joseph Stalin, but both are socialists. Similarly, Donald Trump is not Adolf Hitler, but both are fascists. Each believes that the individual should be subordinated entirely to the state under the whim of an unbridled leader. That's the relevant comparison, and one which should inform a voter's decision."

Most of us at some point have wondered how the citizens of Germany let the Holocaust happen. I now understand.
